"Small Steps lead to Big Changes"
Wilma Rudolph said, “By the mile it’s a trial, but by the inch it’s a cinch”. Neil Armstrong said, “That’s one
small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. Often times in my life I underestimate to importance of a
single step. For me it’s easy to take the first step but often it’s tough to
continue. But if we are ever to make the necessary changes we need to make in our life we must all be willing to
take one step at a time. I don’t know what step is harder for you; maybe it’s the first on, or maybe you’re
like
me and you’ve taken many first steps but you have trouble continuing on the path you’re on. Regardless of which
step you are on I believe we could agree each step is necessary and beneficial for us to take.
As coaches we are continually taking steps to improve as a coach. We are also asking our players and people
involved with our teams to take steps to become better each and every day. All coaches know that without the
proper steps being taken a team will eventually stagnate and deteriorate very quickly. That’s why we invest so
much time in practicing and conditioning. We are committed to taking our teams to the next level and that is
only possible if we are taking the right steps.
The same is true in our lives as well. If we are not committed to improving as individuals our families,
schools, teams, communities, and world crumbles around us and within us. As a follower of Christ, I’m always
being challenged to make changes and take steps to be obedient to His word and ways. Henry Blackaby states that
“you can’t stay where you are and follow Christ”. In other words we have to take the right steps to become all
God wants us to be so we can do all the things He wants us to do.
I love what Jesus said to His disciples when He asked them to take some new steps with Him. He simply said,
“Come, follow me” (Matthew 4:19). Today is God asking you take a step of faith and follow Him with your all your
heart, soul, mind and strength. Are you willing to take the necessary steps He is asking you to take? My prayer
for you is that you will trust Him as you take those steps. He promises to “never leave you or forsake you”
(Deuteronomy 31:8). You never know what that small step you take will do for those in your life. It may be the
giant leap they have needed for a long time.
